Longsword lessons have been added to our online class!

The longsword tutorial videos and drill for this week have been posted to our new online class. This week is focusing on power and body mechanics. When done right you will have precision, deadly accuracy, and a ton of power. I have had TV analysts measure the power of my longsword strikes and they calculated my strikes coming in with several hundred pounds of pressure. In this video I’m using a functionally sharpe (sharp enough to cut your finger, but not razor sharp) sword to cut a pig in half. I was able to punch through muscle, bone, and the spine of a 100 pound pig while it was swinging freely. Make note disputes the pig moving my strike landed in the same place every time. Wednesday Drill 3/6 – March of the Drills

For the Month of March we are offering Free training drills as a sample of the type of training we do at Ironside Medieval Combat.  We have custom developed a curriculum that has never been seen before.  This training curriculum is one of the three pillars of the Iron-Warrior System.  No matter how amazing the system it is up to the individual to build upon that foundation with dedication and hard work.

This drill is designed to practice an upward strike to the armpit or forearm.  The strike comes in at a 45 degree angle.  When practicing this strike on a straight pell like the one in the video it is normal for the sword to skip up.  Make sure your initial contact is edge on at a 45 degree angle to the pell.  Be sure to over exaggerate your movements as you learn this drill.  It’s about teaching your muscles timing and firing to add speed and power to your strikes.

Tuesday Drill 3/5 – March of the Drills

There is an old Chinese proverb that says “A beginner practices until they get it right, a master practices until they can’t get it wrong.”  Drills and practice help us narrow our focus down to specific skills and practice them until they are mastered.  The Iron-warrior system that we teach is built on the foundation of fitness, skill work, and nutrition.  However, it is up to the individual to build upon that foundation with dedication and hard work.  We are here to support, teach, and train.  Come give one of our classes for free and start your new adventure as an Iron-warrior.

Monday Drill 3/4 – March of the Drills

At Ironside MC we have developed a curriculum that has never been seen before.  We have taken years of study, thousands of hours of sparring, drills, tournaments, and much more and organized it in an easy to learn system.  For the month of March we are offering a free peak into our training methods and drills.

 

Power and Body Mechanics

On the surface this drill looks very simple, however, it is the foundation for all other strikes.  With this drill focus on getting the timing of your hips and shoulders down correctly.  To generate power it starts in the legs and hips.  The hips start moving forward, quickly followed by the shoulders, then the arms direct that power.  Once the power has been released the hips pull back, followed by the shoulders, last is the arms.  This turns every strike into a whip.  It also helps you conserve energy.  Many people overly rely on their arms for power, and wear out quickly during a fight.  A fighter that generates power using their body can easily conserve energy and fight all day long.
