I often go running when the weather is good. There is this amazing lake a few miles from my house that I love to visit. This past week the weather has been gorgeous. Often when I run I have head phones in listening to music, my favorite book reading to me, and my running app tracking my progress. I am completely at home running alone through my neighborhood and various mountain trails. As I was jogging I contemplated why and thought about many of my friends hiding in their homes with the news announcement the Coronavirus has reached my area. I refuse to live my life in fear. It’s not that I am arrogant enough to think I am invincible. It’s a mindset.
Martial Arts has trained my mind to be strong, and my life experiences have taught me I am strong. Peace of mind is a mindset not a condition of our environment. The environment helps, it is why it is so important to surround yourself with the right people who support and lift you instead of breaking you down. However, at the end of the day, it is up to you and your own will. Are you the kind of person who will rise to the occasion? Are you the kind of person who will rise to the occasion? Are you the kind of person who puts others first? Do you shoulder the burden to be the person your friends and family need you to be? We all have that strength within ourselves. We are all capable of standing up for our beliefs and being a force for good. It isn’t easy, but the more you believe in yourself, the more you take a stand, the easier it will become. It takes 21 days to form a new habit. Start small, do the dishes, pick up after yourself, do a random act of kindness for someone in your life. As you start to change your habits you will think more positively and walk into the light of your ideal life.
A lot of people are getting scared about this whole Coronavirus thing, causing stress levels to climb. Don’t live your life in fear. A peaceful mind will always prevail over a distracted mind. Take whatever precautions you think necessary, but don’t let this current problem have control over you. Go outside, eat right, exercise, get plenty of sleep, keep your mind and body strong. Today I was able to shave 40 seconds off my average mile run times. I stayed focused on my task and left my worries behind me. That focus allowed me to enjoy my run, relax, and excel. You can bloom and overcome any obstacle in your path. Believe in yourself!
A little while ago I made a post discussing what it meant to live a knightly life – “Knightly: creed and way of life. I have adopted the Farang Mu Sul creed as a symbol and philosophy of what knightly means:
Modern Farang Mu Sul Creed:
Correctness in Attitude
Excellence in Training
Directness in Action
Effectiveness in Combat
Humility in Heart
Strength in Character
Freedom in Expression
Thirst in Knowledge
Power in Truth
Respect in Wisdom
A warrior does not live in fear. A warrior is wise in their choices. Keeps their mind and body healthy. They are the trailblazers of our world. We lead others through our examples. Be the light in the storm, the oasis in the desert, and help our frightened neighbors stay calm during this stressful time.
