One of the biggest reasons for not eating healthy is struggling to find the time to cook everyday. That is where meal prep comes in. I don’t know about you, but I never have time during the week to cook. For the past six months I have transformed my life with the following meal prep tricks.
Get yourself something to keep all your meals, water bottles, dressing, vitamins, and food stuff organized. Keeping everything organized in an easy grab and go bag makes the start of your day very quick and easy.
Personally, I like the “6 Pack” lunch box. It has shelves and everything! Makes my little organizer heart go pitter patter.
Formula for Success
Find a formula for success. This will help guide you and make decisions for your meals. My basic formula is 1/2 meat and 1/2 vegetables. In the pictures above I used marinaded chicken or steak and steamed vegetables. If you look through my numerous recipes for meal prep you will find they all follow this formula for success.
Shopping: only get what you need
I used to shop in the big stores such as Sam’s Club and Costco buying all my food in bulk thinking I was saving money. In reality I was buying way too much food that I would constantly struggle to eat. Instead, I shifted my focus to only buying the food I would eat for the week. In this case I can experiment with recipes and don’t worry about wasting food if the experiment doesn’t come out. Also shopping for the exact amounts I need with my meal prep helps with portion control. If I know I have a ton of extra I will over eat because the opportunity is there and I know I can.
Once you are finished cooking pre-pack everything you need. Each individual meal goes into it’s own container. That way you can mix and match your meals for the week. It keeps everything organized and easy to grab when you are in a hurry.
Keep your Kitchen Clean
This last step is important. The whole idea behind meal prep is to make your life as simple as possible. If you spend an hour cooking and leave a mess behind you it will frustrate you for the rest of the week. Not to mention having a messy kitchen before you even get started can be a huge turn off. You are already stressed, hungry, and in a hurry the last thing you want to do is clean. However, if your kitchen is clean to start with it makes cooking an almost pleasant experience.
