This is Duncan, Head Coach at B Greater Fitness…blowing up your news feed with an invitation to try something new.
I’ve been an Athlete almost all my life, but I didn’t start that way. I was that short fat kid…mullet and glasses. You know the one…picked last if picked at all. And before you roll your eyes and think “Here we go again…another ‘If I can do it you can do it’ kind of self-help guru high on his own supply” I would ask you to stop.
Stop right there. Hear me out.
I’ve been working out DAILY in one form or another since I was 11. I’m almost 40 now. I’ve been some places and done some things. Along the way I’ve discovered three immutable truths…three principles I use with each of my Friends and Clients to maximize the carryover of what we do in the gym to what they do in life.
Give me two minutes.
Lesson One – Only Commitment and Consistency count.
The hardest step is NOT “Walking through the gym doors.” That’s what folks tell you when they want you to feel better about your decision. Walking through the gym doors is easy…coming back is what’s hard. Lots of people have done lots of things once. Think back on those moments in your life you are most proud of…how much did you sacrifice to get there? How hard did you work? How uncomfortable were you willing to be to get what you were after? Success is what happens when you commit consistent effort and focus to a goal. Everything else is random chance.
Lesson Two – You have time.
“Duncan I don’t have time to train.” You don’t have time to take care of yourself? You can hit the snooze button twice, wait in line for who knows how long for your “handcrafted cold brew French pressed” $8 cup of nonsense but you don’t have 15-20 minutes a day to devote to your physical well-being? No one…and I mean…NO ONE…is that busy. I promise you this: There will come a time when you’ll look back and wish you’d made time. And if it isn’t you looking back, it will be a loved one looking down wishing you had. Think about that.
Lesson Three – You don’t know what you don’t know.
The internet makes information immediately available. You can pick up your phone and look things up in an instant. Just because you read the newest or most-liked article on HIIT or Keto or Carb-Cycling doesn’t mean you can properly evaluate, retain, and execute. You could probably get under your car and, if you had enough time, figure out how to change your oil. You could probably do that. But the fear of goofing it up and wrecking your engine creates some doubt and motivates you (me anyway!) to take your car to a professional…someone who gets under the hood and has no doubt about what they’re doing. If you don’t know how to do a thing, it’s up to you to find someone who can either do it for you or teach you how. Not knowing something isn’t a sin; refusing to take action and find the solution is…
If you’re ready to take control of your 2019, to take action instead of just being in motion, drop me a note or send B Greater Fitness a Friend Request. I’ll be posting free workouts four times a week through the month of February…give it a shot. Invest 20 minutes a day three or four times a week in yourself.
See what happens.
